Working online allows for transformation anywhere.
Some of my colleagues call it “Skypenosis,” and it’s a lot of fun.
I use a program called Zoom for video conferencing. Of course, the best part is that we can work together all over the world.
What makes a successful online session?
It helps to have uninterrupted time in a quiet place.
Please arrange your space and time, so you are less likely to be distracted by phones, kids, barking dogs, squawking parrots, or plumbers. [These are just a few of the challenges that have popped up in the past.]
Wherever you can be comfortable and quiet for an hour or so will work. In chaotic situations, we’ve done great work in sessions from a bathroom, a bedroom, and even from a car in the driveway!
It helps to hear each other clearly.
When we work via video conferencing, you may use the built-in audio on your device. But there is something lovely, warm, and powerful about allowing suggestions directly into your head. In fact, some hypnotists use headphones even in the office.
I recommend a simple gaming headset (over the ears with a microphone), but ear buds will also work just fine.
It helps to see each other easily.
When we first connect, we’ll chat for a bit. With the video on, I can demonstrate breathing and stress relief techniques. Plus I wave my hands when I talk, so you don’t want to miss that.
When the formal hypnosis begins, you’ll find a safe and comfortable place where you can sit or lie back.
You’ll position your device, so your camera shows your face and torso. This allows me to see your expression and monitor your breathing.
Propping up a laptop, iPad, or phone on a side table works beautifully.
For this portion of our session, you may have your eyes closed to relax more completely, and I may turn off my camera to save bandwidth when that happens.
You will find the experience transformative.
There is something quite lovely about being in your own safe and comfortable environment, listening to a friendly voice guiding you softly into that deep place inside where your inner mind decides what happens next.
It helps to prepare for the session.
There are some specific tips about using Zoom on the FAQ page.
If you’ve never used Zoom before, it’s helpful to download the app the day before our first session.
You can make sure you know how to log on and test your headset ahead of time, so we can make the most of our scheduled time together.
