Transformation

Sometimes you need a reset.

You know the way you’re thinking and feeling isn’t helping. It can be as though you’re stuck going round and round in the same cycle. You haven’t wanted to reach out for help, because just the thought of talking about it – again – makes you tired.

That’s the beauty of hypnosis for trance-formation. We do something a little different.

Because, as helpful as sharing your story and gaining insight can be, it’s hard to think your way out of a feeling.

Hypnosis helps us reach right into the subconscious. If the human mind is like a computer, our work is more like upgrading the operating system instead of just changing the content in a document.

How do our sessions work?

They are always completely customized, but below is a little bit about the process. It’s very similar whether we are working in-person or online.

We take our time.

I ask clients to allow two hours for the first session. Follow-up sessions are usually 90 minutes, but it’s great if we have the extra time just in case.

Because we’re working through feelings, not just talking about them, we want to have time to finish our process each time.

Sessions usually start with a brief exploration of where you’ve been, where you are, and where you want to be.

Then, we learn some basic relaxation skills – a different one for each of the first few sessions. We get to talk, laugh, and connect. (It’s a lot easier to relax when you’re comfortable with the person you’re inviting into your head!)

We focus on your strengths.

We start by getting out of stress and panic, and into comfort and wholeness.

So many of our problems these days come from being overwhelmed by stress and getting stuck in the fight or flight response. Once you’re able to breathe, you can connect with your inner resources.

If you’re looking at this page, it’s because you want to change something in your life. Our work reminds you that what needs to change are your results – not your identity. You can transform your patterns, your responses, and your experiences, while learning to accept yourself for who you really are.

We replace inner conflict with an inner team.

If you have a goal that you aren’t meeting that should be possible, it’s usually because you’re not 100% committed. What do I mean? Let’s use smoking as an example. If someone isn’t quitting, it’s because part of them wants to stop smoking and part of them is still getting some benefit from doing it. Seems obvious, right?

Instead of denying, struggling, or shaming the part that wants to smoke, we can use hypnosis to dig a little deeper.

When we access the inner mind, we can find out exactly what’s the part that keeps smoking really wants. (I can pretty much guarantee you that it doesn’t want to inhale poison.) The smoking part may want to be cool, to fit in, or have something to keep the hands busy.

Even when the desire might seem negative (“the smoking part wants to punish me,” for example), there is a positive desire. You only want to punish someone to help them become good – whatever that means to you.

And the wonderful news is this: When you find a healthy way to give all the parts of you what they truly desire, the need for the unhelpful behavior vanishes. Zippety bop. Snap. Gone. No struggle, no cravings.

We find the purpose of the pain.

The same sort of technique that helps us break habits of behavior can help us shift our habits of thinking, too. What is that overthinking trying to do for us?

Even physical pain is a coping mechanism. We’re supposed to feel pain (as I did when I broke my toe). That’s how we know to stay off it and let it heal. In chronic pain, the pattern of sending and interpreting signals has gotten stuck – or may even have shifted the source from the body to the mind.

When we are absolutely certain it is safe to turn off old pain, we can reset the program and restore the body’s ability to alert us when something new needs our attention.

We reset communication between mind and body.

There is something almost magical about learning to communicate with and trust your body, your thoughts, and your dreams.

Even better, we can do this with your sharing as much or as little as you feel comfortable doing. If you prefer, I can guide you through the process “privacy style.”

Although my clients trust me completely, there are still times when we just let the subconscious do its work without specific guidance.

Those sessions can be immensely personal and powerful.

We vary our techniques.

Finding the right approach for the right person at the right time is one reason I prefer to work with people for a series of sessions. We can reach the same point from a few different directions.

Some of the sessions involve guided imagery and deep relaxation, but I don’t always do all the talking. Sometimes we have very active dialogues with your inner mind.

Sometimes it feels very deep. One new client said, “You just gave me a massage for my soul.”

At other times, it feels like we’re just chatting normally. As one client said, “I feel like I just had a really honest conversation with myself, and I don’t understand why I just didn’t do that before!”

We vary the number of sessions depending on your needs.

Sure, sometimes we can break a habit in one session – but I want to make sure it won’t reappear in a time of stress or get replaced by a substitute soothing method. Have you ever seen how many packs of cigarettes are consumed at AA meetings?

I generally recommend starting with three sessions for the simplest issues and eight-session packages for ongoing or severe issues. This allows us to not only approach a problem from several directions, but also to build stress management skills. This will give us time to practice stress-relief techniques, so those old habits never have an excuse to weasel back into your life.

We even vary the fee to encourage commitment.

Multi-session packages are offered at a reduced rate to encourage commitment to your wellness.

Packages also include extra bonuses like recordings for at-home listening, journal prompts, and email support as needed.

Longer packages also include a custom recording made just for you. You’ll always be able to reinforce your progress with suggestions and images drawn from your own powerful imagination.

And we offer special rates always to first responders, teachers, children, and on a case-by-case basis.

dancing about architecture.

Talking about feelings, instead of feeling them, always reminds me of this quote, attributed variously to actor/singer Martin Mull and singer Elvis Costello.
